The Simpps, the medical and welfare service dedicated to students

The Simpps (inter-university service for preventive medicine and the promotion of health) is a medical and welfare service dedicated to students. A team of healthcare professionals is on hand to answer your questions, respond to your needs, and provide support for matters related to your health and student life

You can meet staff from the Simpps in the 3 healthcare centres located on the campuses of Université Toulouse Capitole, Université Toulouse - Jean Jaurès and Université Toulouse III Paul Sabatier. Other branches are open on certain days and times on the sites of INSA and Toulouse INP, and at locations outside of Toulouse.

Consulting a nurse and making an appointment

You can contact the nurses in person or by phone from Monday to Friday, 8.30 AM to 5 PM. The nurses are available for consultation without an appointment to offer advice and point you in the direction of the most appropriate healthcare professional. You will then need to make an appointment with these healthcare professionals:
•    GPs, vaccination;
•    Social workers: listening and advice about academic, family, personal, administrative and financial problems.
•    Psychiatrist and psychologist: medical and psychological support;
•    Specialist practitioners: family planning, nutritionist, addiction counsellor, sex therapist.

Confidential consultations with no upfront fee | Make an appointment by phone or in person at the nurses’ reception desk

The nurse will make an initial assessment before pointing you in the direction of a healthcare professional (either on-site or external) as the case may be, or providing you with information.

Health check-up

The Simpps will send you an invitation to come for a health check-up during your time at university. This check-up is a preventive examination with medical, psychological and well-being components.

The check-up involves:
•    An assessment of your healthcare needs;
•    A check of your vaccinations;
•    A general health check: weight/height, eye/hearing test;
•    A medical examination;
•    A short discussion about your student life (studies, housing, how you feel, birth control, addictions, etc.);
•    As the case may be, you may be encouraged to consult a healthcare professional or social worker, either on-site or externally.
The check-up lasts for: 30 minutes.
Remember to bring along your health record or record of vaccinations, as well as your glasses (if applicable).

Health centre

You can make an appointment to have a medical check-up with a GP without paying any fees up front. The service will contact your insurer (public health insurance fund and private health insurance), which will pay the cost of the consultation.
Remember to bring along your “carte vitale” (green health insurance card) and your private health insurance card.

Tobacco addiction

You can make an appointment with an addiction counsellor to help you stop smoking. With your input, the addiction counsellor will make an assessment of your smoking habits, give you advice and help you stop smoking. These appointments are free of charge and available on Thursday afternoons.

You can make an appointment with a psychiatrist or one of the Simpps psychologists. These sessions are prescribed after an initial consultation with a healthcare professional or the Simpps social workers.

Social service / Student welfare

The Simpps social service is on site to listen to your concerns, offer advice and support for your individual and overall well-being, and to help you carry out your formalities. The social worker can help you: • Find out your rights: healthcare, disability, housing, etc. • Get access to healthcare; • Get back on your feet after a difficult period (personal, family, relational or material difficulties); • Carry out administrative formalities within your institution or other administrations. If you suffer from a disability, the social service can help you carry out your welfare formalities. To provide you with the best possible help to overcome your difficulties, and depending on your needs, the social worker will offer you support either individually or as part of a team of healthcare professionals from the Simpps (doctors, nurses, psychologists, nutritionist, etc.).

Each institution has measures in place for welcoming and supporting people with a disability, and the resources required to implement special arrangements for exams and/or studies.

You need to send your request for special arrangements to a doctor appointed by the CDAPH, via the Simpps.

The Simpps doctors prescribe special arrangements for all types of disability: permanent or temporary for students at Université Toulouse 1 Capitole, IEP, Montauban, IUT in Rodez and Millau and, by way of an agreement, for the ICT.

Université Toulouse - Jean Jaurès:
The Simpps doctors prescribe special arrangements for all types of disability: Permanent or temporary for students at Université Toulouse - Jean Jaurès (on-site and remote learning), IUT in Figeac and, by way of agreement, ENAT and ENVT.

Université Toulouse III Paul Sabatier:
For students at Université Toulouse III Paul Sabatier with a permanent disability, this mission is delegated to Dr Cadieux (“Mission Handicap” (Disability Mission)), who prescribes the special arrangements to be made for exams and studies. These arrangements are then implemented directly by staff working for the mission.

For students at Université Toulouse III Paul Sabatier (on-site or based on other sites) with a temporary disability, the Simpps doctors are responsible for prescribing the appropriate measures. These special arrangements are implemented by the UFRs (training and research units).

For students atToulouse INP, INSA Toulouse and, by way of an agreement, Insitut National Universitaire Champollion, the Simpps doctors prescribe  measures for people suffering from a permanent or temporary disability.
